Anne Washington and Joanne Cheung call for technologists to clarify what the "public interest" consists of, and to adopt stronger principles of inclusion and transparency with respect to conflicts of interest. "Public interest technology has the potential to meet the promises that have failed before. We offer our definition to move the field of public interest technology forward, by recognizing lessons from history."
